I have tried HostReview : Expert Web Hosting Service Reviews and Web Host Guides previously. I tend to read the opinions of respected members of web design forums like here at the Developer Tutorials to gauge the quality of various web hosts. Host review sites are tarnished by very poor review sites which are biased for various reasons - usually biasing of ratings towards certain hosts.

A useful guide I have for determining the quality of reviews at a web hosting review site, is to look at the Google Page Rank (PR) of that site. If it is very low, I figure there is a higher chance that this is a bogus site. Those with higher PR are presumably more trust worthy due to the high number of quality backlinks they are receiving. This isn't a particularly reliable measure, but it is the only one I have.

By my crude method of measuring web hosting review sites, the one I linked to at the start of this post is twice as good as thehost-review and five times as good as thehostingcharts.com.
