Default Intro to programming book

Sometime back I started a programming book. I can hear you groaning already - jeez, come on, dude, there's so many out there - but wait, hear me out. In the past decade I've skimmed and perused many books: big fat juicy ones with way too much, and thin lean ones that have left me bewildered simply because some guru thought I didn't need to know what the heck the semicolon was there for.

I already have the book in my head and on paper, I daresay the idea is lean and tasty. But I woke up this morning thinking it would be a great idea to gather feedback from others who struggled and are struggling. Gather feedback on what concepts were/are challenging, where you felt other authors fell short. So as your time allows it'll be great to hear from you all.
