It's hard to know what is going on without knowing what is going on behind the scenes. From what I've read, both Russian and Georgian forces have a right to be there and some of the countries who are spouting their opinion on the matter seem biased due to how it affects them, not how it affects the people of South Ossetia.
A telling point, is that apparently 90% of South Ossetians own a Russian passport, many of whom do not consider themselves Georgian.
Georgia's president Saakhashvili provoked Russia to start this war, he barked from behind of the USA, but when Russia got angry, USA went away and georgia got the bombs. What was aske that had happened!
