Default Splitting posts shown on the homepage in WordPress

Hi,
Does anyone know how I can have my WordPress only show a part of the post on the homepage of the blog so the user will have to click on it to view the full post?

Thanks.

I don't know if the latest version of WP has this built in to the control panel, but if not then you can use the method described on this page to do it yourself.

Hi BigAl,
Thanks for that info. You hit the nail on the head. Also there is another way to do it using one of the wyswyg icons in the editor for WP. It allows you to simply cut the post wherever you choose and it will automatically insert a "blah blah read further" statement.

The way you have suggested actually gives the user more versatility though as they can produce their own introduction type paragraph and then it links to the content of the actual post. Pretty neat.

The other way as I mentioned above only cuts the post at a certain point and then links to the page of the full post.

Thanks,
JL.

Your home page is normally generated from your index.php file, so replace the_content in that file with the_excerpt. This will replace the full post with an excerpted one.
