Default Is this a professional work??

I hired a programmer at ScriptLance to create banners for affiliate program. The programmer has about 30 excellent reviews. However, the first banner that he created seems terrible to me. I have attached the last revision of this banner. Can you look at it and tell if this is a professional work? Maybe this is a great peace of art like "Black Square" and I just don't understand?

For comparison look at these banners from HostScripts and SharewarePlaza:

Hmm I'm not a very graphical person, but I'd agree it doesn't seem like a particularly amazing banner, although I wouldn't go as far as terrible. I'd say it depends on how much you are paying - if you're paying a lot then expect better, but if you're paying say $20 or less per banner then this is about what I'd expect.

Yeah like BigAl said-- about $20 worth if that.

I'd say that took about 10-15 minutes of work.

Did you pay for these or are these proofs?

I suspect this is your critical problem. Programmers by their very nature are unlikely to be very good at designing banners. I recommend hiring a graphic designer for that type of job. There are programmers/coders who can design as well, but they're generally quite expensive.
