Default Viral marketing tools which do you use?

Have any of you ever used viral marketing to promote your website? If so, how did you do it and what were your results? I need to work on promoting my website and I've been reading up on using viral marketing and would like to try it out with some ones that are currently working well. Thanks.

I tried once, but failed.

I submitted a site to a whole swathe of joke blogs and posted on a bunch of joke forums but to no avail. My traffic to the site has been adysmal.

I'm trying StumbleUpon at the moment to try and generate some interest, but I'm not holding my breathe. I guess the site isn't as funny as I thought it was :P

StumbleUpon is great for sending traffic in my experience - I had a few pages on my site do well, and they sent me over 20,000 visitors in a month! Viral content is very difficult to create intentionally - I mean who would have thought that the most viewed videos in the world would include a fat schoolkid pretending to be in Star Wars, or an Eastern European man miming to a rubbish song!! Certain things just capture the public imagination, but it's difficult to know what. Master it and you'll be a rich man though!

I use Stumbleupon quite a bit. It brings traffic but not sure how much is "quality" traffic.

In terms of CTR on my ads: 1-2%
In terms of sign ups to my site: 0.05-0.1%

Neither exactly very quality - but this is largely due to the way SU is used - click stumble over and over - no matter how good your site is, many people won't stay.
