Is this type of site profitable?

Hi everyone, I am a newbie. We already run a site and are wanting to build another one. My question is we want to build a site and offer a service which will be free. We obviously expect to make our living off affiliates, ad space etc. The site will NOT be just links, there will be resources, etc.

Can some of you that run a similar site WORLDWIDE give me an idea of what kind of money that can be made from doing this?

No one can possibly tell you this answer. The only way you will find out this if you tried it. If you wanted others to tell you then you need to tell them much more than what you have, infact you need to show them a business plan or something. In other words, the amount you own depends on the design of the site, the traffic of the site, how targetted the traffic is, what programs you use to monetize your website, etc.

Any site that has a lot of traffic can be profitable. It's all about the traffic in this industry!

My general rule of thumb is that if you can earn more than 0.5c per unique visitor then you are doing extremely well.

But like others have said, it's impossible to give any estimate without a LOT more information about your site and what content it will contain. Even then it's really just guesswork. And even though you can monetize something to the hilt, it doesn't mean you should as that will drive some users away. So you may make decent money for a short while, but once you've your visitors leave your traffic will drop off and accordingly so will the income. So it depends on a lot of things, including how steady your traffic will be in the face of quite obtrusive advertising. If you can fill a niche which no one else has or can fill, then you can force advertising a little more than one which is similar to other sites.

In web world, almost type of sites will bring money. This will be based on the traffic. So first of all u have toget a good traffic. For this u have to make a site, its area u should know well. then only u can optimize and add valuable content . Its should be an interesting field to u then u will get more interest to work on it
