I've never used it myself, but I've just had a search round their site and a few others, and the general consensus seems to be it does work, but it doesn't do anything you can't do with other (free) plugins, a bit of work and a bit of knowledge.
The main things I would consider important to do for a forum would be getting nice page titles, and nice URLs. I'm certain a plugin exists for the former, and if not then it would be a half hour job max to do it yourself. In terms of URLs, it would be a bit more work to do it yourself with mod_rewrite, but nothing unfeasible.
The question I guess you have to ask yourself is: Will the time I spend implementing these changes be worth more or less $149 to me? If you could be making $50 an hour doing something else, and it's going to take you 10 hours to do, then buy the plugin, if not, then do it yourself.
As a final note, beware that as with any change you make to the structure and URLs of your site, expect to see something of a ranking, and therefore traffic decrease in the short-term (~3 months ish). Google will need to drop your old pages from its index, then find and index the new ones. Obviously I'd recommend doing 301s from old to new pages to keep (some) incoming link weight, but you'll still see a ranking hit.
