Lol, yes that is good advice, but putting theory into practice is a little more complicated

Lately I've had some luck by getting to know owners of large sites over MSN, email etc. and through those connections have picked up some great backlinks from high PR sites.

i agree.. but theres nothing harm in trying, if we know what were doing..

Try to do more SEO works otherwise u loos. Also check the reason for loosing may u make links, PR degreesed , Site not updating etc.
