Creating mail accounts using PHP

Can anyone recommend some free scripts or packages that has the ability to create email accounts on my POP system for my registrants.

Lets say for example "Robert Smith" comes onto my site and registers an account with me. Once the user successfully submits his information, I want my site to create an email account on my system.

robert_smith@mydomain.com

I have a dedicated server and admin rights over the POP system, so there should be no access issues.

Hmm a bit tricky this one, I don't really know how you'd go about it, and a bit of searching didn't find any solutions. Logically thinking, I'd go about a solution like this - find the file/database where your mail server keeps it records, and then write to this file/database using PHP when needed. I have no idea where a mail server typically keeps its records though...
